Ricky started singing at concerts from age five, and by the
time he was ten
years old he had learned his first chords on the guitar so that he
could
accompany himself.
After a few years of playing rhythm guitar, he developed an
interest in the
bass, and on a suggestion from a close friend decided to become a
bass
player. He got his first gig in this role at age fifteen.
During the 1970s Rick played in several bands while perfecting his
role as a
bass player/singer, which included a two and-a-half-year stint in
Canada
touring the providence of Quebec. He toured extensively since that
period,
and has performed as far afield as North America, Europe and the
wider
Caribbean.
Ricky has opened for some major acts including Patti LaBelle,
Paebo Bryson
and Brian McKnight to name a few, and sat in with Tito Puente
during the
2000 Barbados jazz festival.
He has played on numerous recordings dating back to the 1970s
before
releasing his debut solo album, Make Your Move.
At present, Ricky is a member of the highly acclaimed Plantation
band, and
is musical director for international rhythm poet Aja.
